Adelaide - a garden city

Our main reason for coming to Adelaide was for Geoff to visit his colleagues in the Aurecon office there and for us to see the enormous Adelaide Desalination Plant.  The desal plant was impressive and it was fascinating to get a better understanding on how they work.  Meeting Geoff's colleagues was very useful as he works with them on projects from time to time.

Adelaide city centre was planned from the beginning and the city centre is set out in a friendly grid layout which is surrounded by parks on all four sides.  We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the parks, botanical garden and the riverfront areas.

Even the 'plain coloured pigeons' are a little eccentric with their spike of feathers on their heads.
Pelicans on the riverfront.  We could walk right up to them and they stood about 1,2m tall - pretty big for a bird!
Anyone who's visited Australia from a 'normal' country would have come back with many photos of crazy signs.  We came to a T-junction in town and were confronted by these.  We thought they were worth a photo! It would be even funnier if they both pointed inwards!
We really love the free botanical gardens in Australia and find ourselves drawn to them.  We spent a very happy morning wandering around the Adelaide garden.
No, not a baobab, but an Australian forest tree.....pretty cool.
They have a waterlily glasshouse with the massive Amazon waterlily (the big leaves) and the Nile waterlily growing in a pool.  The massive leaves of the Amazon lily were remarkable.  There are just two of this lily in the pond behind Geoff, yet they almost fill it!
Catching some lovely sunshine perched on a mexican tree of some kind:)
The native fig trees in Australia are very impressive and invite you to climb them!
